Guest annex

The design brief

David was looking for a collaborative Garden Annex design where he could participate in the internal design of the space.  He was also looking for a traditional style of building where timber played a major feature in the overall aesthetic, both inside and out.  The Annex needed to blend in seamlessly with its surrounding neighbourhood, which stood in a Conservation area.

What we installed

Under Specific planning application rules we designed a pitched roof building and utilised more traditional materials in the form of feather edge cladding, slate roof tiles and hardwood timber window/ door systems.

The building measured 6m x 4m and had an extended pitch height of 4.6m. A Velux window installed in a “limited pace” location allowed the building to attract natural light from many areas.

The building is supplied with mains drainage and electrical systems to fully support its use.  Internally, David was looking for a mezzanine floor design and by utilising the pitch and the aesthetic addition of a glulam beam, we provided a space that was more than adequate for his purpose.

We further advised and installed, in a more rustic style, re-purposed timber for the internal walls and ceilings.

The Annex now provides a multi functional space for David’s lifestyle activities
